After years of working in London’s fashion industry, I left for the tranquillity of the countryside. As someone who always has a project at hand, I immediately began renovating my 17th century cottage. Always passionate for distinctive design and impeccable craftsmanship, it was a struggle to find quality curtain poles. I took on the task of sketching down my ideas and with the help of a local blacksmith we brought them to life. Within months, I was designing poles for friends and the Bradley Collection was born.
We have developed with the times, but still remain true to the traditional production techniques which make Bradley so unique. The company distributes worldwide whilst remaining committed to the initial intention of designing and producing distinctive high quality drapery systems.

PASSION FOR CRAFTSMANSHIP
Deep in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, Hancock & Moore started with a vision to manufacture the finest quality furniture that would remain beautiful for generations. This became reality in 1981, when Hancock & Moore was founded. That vision is displayed in each piece of Hancock & Moore furniture through the skillful touch of master craftsmen like Jimmy Moore.
He grew up learning the skills of a carpenter, turning wood into artful creations. The desire to make distinctive furniture was an instilled value and the skill to make it was a gift. He spent hours carving, hand-sanding, sewing and upholstering handcrafted pieces. This, he decided, was the "ideal" way to build a unique brand of furniture. With the help of his fellow craftsmen, he transforms solid woods, soft leathers and fine fabrics into handcrafted furnishings no machine could ever match. Each piece of Hancock & Moore furniture bears the signatures of these artisans that created it. Whether it is crafting custom orders, or surveying production, his skilled vision for perfection remains.
Jimmy Moore is one of the last to leave at the end of each work day, assuring that your handcrafted Hancock & Moore piece will result in furniture that you will enjoy and can be proud of for years to come. |

In May of 1946, my parents Carroll and Mary Henkel, together with close family friend John Harris, decided to begin producing furniture in the basement of the family home. Thus, from modest beginnings, the Henkel Harris legacy was born.
The first finished Henkel Harris piece was a hand-crafted reproduction corner cabinet. The three young entrepreneurs were very excited about their accomplishment. Unfortunately, they faced one small problem how to get the large corner cabinet out of the house! In their exuberance, they had failed to measure correctly, and the finished piece would not fit through the basement door. Carroll's solution was to saw it in half and glue it back together. They then placed the corner cabinet in the back of an old pickup truck and drove to Washington, D.C. where it was quickly sold. While they were happy with their initial success, the three friends knew the basement was obviously not a place to produce furniture. Shortly after their return from Washington, D.C. the trio moved their tiny operation to a warehouse next door to the Henkel home.
Henkel Harris grew steadily from 1946 to 1954. The young company's reputation for making quality furniture, however, spread rapidly. By 1954, the company employed 22 craftsmen and produced furniture from cherry, mahogany and walnut woods. That same year, John Harris sold his interest in the company to my parents and moved to Washington, D.C.
By 1964, the company had once again outgrown its existing facilities. This time, my father decided to design a new plant himself one that was to become a model manufacturing facility.
The legacy built by my father and mother and passed down to the generations who have followed, is why a company, which grew from a tiny basement in the Henkel home in 1946, continues today to be "Just Possibly America's Finest Furniture."
-William Henkel |

John-Richard was formed in 1980 as a sideline business to one of the largest retail furniture operations in the Mississippi Delta. The original company employed five people and was housed in a 10,000 sq. ft. warehouse. The first product was wall decor and consisted of 38 prints and was primarily hand colored engravings. The name of the company was drawn from the middle names of the original partners.
The company as it exists today, really began to take shape in 1987 when Alex Malouf became the owner. One of the original partners, Alex, had a desire to become one of the country's finest producers of framed art.
The factory burned to the ground on August 25th, 1990. All the market samples for the October show and a new line of lighting were destroyed and had to be replaced. Working out of the space one fourth the size of the factory, John-Richard rebuilt their operation and now have expanded their old 16,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility to 275,000 sq. ft. In addition to the Greenwood facility, John-Richard has offices in India, China, Indonesia, and the Phillipines with a total employment exceeding 500 people.
The success of the company is based on Alex's commitment to a strong design staff; there are nine designers involved in every aspect of the business. The company expanded into lighting in 1990, mirrors in 1991, accessories in 1992, accent furniture in 1995 and soft goods in 1999. All expansions have borrowed technologies from each other, through exposure to new materials, finishes, and resources providing a unique look to the market. |

Sligh 129 Years... a great beginning
Charles Sligh was 12 when his dad was killed in the war. Since his older brother was also serving in the military, it fell to Charles to go to work to help support his mother and sisters. The year, 1862. The place, Grand Rapids, Michigan.
You could hear the whistle of the train and smell the sawdust in the air as furniture companies were springing up on every corner in Grand Rapids. Newly arrived immigrants, settlers from the eastern seaboard and young Grand Rapids men were ready to work hard to make their success in the burgeoning new industry.
My great grandfather, Charles Sligh ended up working for Berkey & Gay, the leading furniture manufacturer of its day, first on the shop floor and ultimately as a road salesman traveling to all parts of the United States.

Our desire is to provide the interior designer and the discriminating consumer furnishings that
provide comfort, beauty and a general enhancement to the quality of the environment in which they are used.

Our production and delivery scheduling system revolutionized expected lead times on shipments in the industry from eight to twelve weeks to four to six weeks in most cases.
Fabrics, leathers and trims are selected from the perspective of fashion and beauty as opposed to cost and yield. Frames are chosen for style and especially comfort. Careful tailoring provides full pattern match and cushioning is of spring down and down. We have no conveyor lines; finishes are hand antiqued and rubbed, fabrics are cut one at a time and each piece is "bench made" during upholstery.
We are located in North Carolina, the heart of furniture manufacturing in the United States.
We are proud of our company and the products that we produce. We look forward to serving you and sincerely appreciate your interest. |

Barry Dixon’s Design Philosophy:
The integrity of good design is determined simply by what is “appropriate.” Of course, the subjectivity of that word requires that clients align themselves with a designer who shares their vision. To me, “appropriate” involves several levels of consideration. Architecture – what works well with the bones of a space is paramount. Also important is transition, the thread that weaves its way through a home, simultaneously providing unity and flow and allowing diversion and interest. Comfort, even in the most formal areas, is mandatory, as is timelessness, a blessed attribute that straddles fad and period. Quality involves both experience and knowledge. A good reproduction can only be selected with an understanding of the original. Balance and contrast involves many elements: color and texture, heavy and ethereal, old and new. One is as important as the other. Successful design emanates a feeling, not just a look. Nuance is employed to fine tune the whole to the personality of the individual. In the best instances, the effect is a magical aesthetic harmony that is not initially surprising, at least not jolting. Upon inspection or reflection, however, the effect is cleverly unexpected, bridging past with present by bringing the best of history with us into the future. |

Boyd Boggs creates custom furniture, sculpture, lighting and architectural components that pair form and function with innovative artistry. Each one-of-a-kind or limited edition piece showcases the inherent beauty of natural elements, capturing unique variations in color and characteristics that enhance the design. With a background in landscape architecture and refined residential construction, Boggs’ craftsmanship blends modern, clean lines with more traditional forms. While the self-taught artisan works with a variety of materials, many of his distinctive pieces incorporate Appalachian hardwoods such as maple, walnut and cherry.
“My designs evolve from the challenge of meeting a client’s needs with a unique perspective and aesthetic,” he says. “I believe in simplicity, which encourages the eye to move and flow over a piece.”
In Charleston – a city synonymous with architecture and art – Boggs’ work has appeared in the prestigious annual Designer Showhouse and popular fundraising auctions for Habitat for Humanity. He won Best in Show at a 2003 exhibition of national artists at the South Carolina Aquarium. Charleston magazine featured Boggs in its March/April 2003 issue.
Design Process
Boggs works with architects, interior designers and private clients to create furniture within the parameters of purpose, space and budget. He is equally adept at developing his own designs, working with existing design concepts or collaborating with clients to incorporate their inspiration and personal style into a piece.
Please allow approximately 6 to 12 weeks for design and production. Commissions require a 50% deposit and additional payments during the construction process.
